A New Orleans native, John H. Musser, V joined the firm in 1996. John is admitted and licensed to practice before all state and federal courts in Louisiana, including the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. His practice includes general casualty and personal injury defense, insurance coverage disputes, and commercial litigation, with an emphasis in admiralty, employers' liability and workers' compensation matters. He also handles commercial real estate disputes, construction litigation, and environmental and toxic tort matters.

 John serves a wide group of clients and their insurers, including ocean going vessel owners and charterers, casinos, commercial real estate owners, lessors and lessees, homeowner's associations, banks, trucking companies and dealerships, and construction companies. Other clients include seafood processors, environmental service providers, doctors, small businesses, and other individuals. In addition to representing his clients' interests in courts and administrative tribunals throughout the state, John routinely counsels businesses concerning risks in his areas of practice.

 John has testified as an expert witness in maritime law before the Maritime Tribunal for the Republic of Panama on behalf of the prevailing party, is a Proctor in Admiralty (as determined by the Maritime Law Association of the United States), and has also taught continuing legal education to fellow attorneys. He has been honored by his colleagues with a Martindale-Hubbell "A-V" rating, which is awarded to lawyers possessing the very highest levels of skill and integrity.

John completed his undergraduate work at the University of Virginia in 1990, and obtained his Juris Doctor from the Tulane University School of Law in 1993, graduating cum laude with a Certificate in Environmental Law. Prior to joining Murphy, Rogers, Sloss, Gambel and Tompkins, he was associated with another maritime law firm.

 John is a member of the American (where from 2003-06 he served as Vice-Chair and Membership Coordinator of the Admiralty and Maritime Committee of the Tort, Trial and Insurance Practice Section), Louisiana (where he has served on the House of Delegates) and New Orleans Bar Associations; the Bar Association of the Federal Fifth Circuit; the Maritime Law Association; and the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel. He is on the editorial board of the Louisiana Bar Journal, and serves on the Practice Assistance and Improvement and Client Assistance Fund Committees of the Louisiana Bar Association. Outside the practice of law, John is married and has three very energetic boys. He is active in the New Orleans community, and enjoys coaching youth sports.
